The 1 Oz American Gold Eagle is the largest gold coin produced by the US Mint. The Gold Eagle was introduced in the late nineteenth century and quickly became the most popular gold coin in the world.
It's also the rarest coin in circulation, with just thirty in the world and less than two in circulation in the US. The coins are struck in the Master Mint's West Point facility and are shipped to dealers in rolls of 400.
Each of the coins is covered in 22K gold. The mint is currently offering these coins at a 1% premium over the price of gold, making them a gold investment play for those looking to add gold to their portfolio.
Launched in 1986 by the U.S. Mint, the American Eagle Gold Coin Series has included nearly 200 different gold bullion coins, including the most popular and collectible coin in the series – the one-ounce Gold Eagle.
The design of this coin is captured in the iconic “winged eagle” of the iconic Gold Eagle. The circular design features inscriptions in the two languages, “1 OZ .999 FINE SILVER,” and the “USA” in the lower right.
